ABOUT OUR LARGEST FUNDRAISER
The Cashiers Historical Society hosts its largest fundraiser, the Cashiers Designer Showhouse, annually. This year, our 21st anniversary will bring many new and exciting events. Join us from July 28 to August 5th to see the work of 13 interior designers at a beautiful home in Glenville. Purchase tickets for the Preview Party on July 27 and the Closing Brunch on August 5.
Throughout the week, Showhouse attendees will be invited inside the home to admire the work of talented designers; enjoy a variety of workshops, book signings, and panel discussions from beloved creatives across the country; and peruse an array of pop-up shops while interacting with the famous faces behind the brands.
July 27th OPENING NIGHT GALA
The 2018 Cashiers Designer Showhouse will kick off with a Preview Party and Opening Gala on the evening of July 27th that will feature Motown band, The Business, and catering from Southern cooking show host, Vera Stewart, who is easily recognized by her winning smile and contagious enthusiasm.
From 10 AM - 4 PM, enjoy personal styling with entertaining expert and Veranda contributing editor, Danielle Rollins, all day accompanied by a trunk show of her beautiful and unique clothing designs. The afternoon will feature a tablescape demonstration with exquisite linen designer, Jane Scott Hodges of Leontine Linens, and china from Michael Devine, Ltd at 2 PM (requires additional ticket). Starting at 2:45 PM, Jane Scott Hodges will also be signing her book following the workshop. Whispering Angel and hors d'oeuvres from The Chattooga Club will be served in the attendee tent.
Starting at 1 PM, enjoy a flower arranging demonstration with Kakhi Wakefield of Wakefield Designs. She will be showing attendees how to build a beautiful arrangement with flowers foraged from their backyards in Cashiers, NC (requires additional ticket). The afternoon will also feature a healthy beauty demonstration with the founders of Sapelo Skin Care starting at 2:30 PM with complimentary cuts and styling by Atlanta's talented Van Michael Salon.
The morning will feature a demonstration by esteemed Western, NC wedding cake baker Serena Owen of Sugar Cloud Baking Co. where she will be hand sculpting edible sugar flowers at 11 AM. Later at 2 PM, interior designer Douglas Hilton will present on “No the painting should not match the sofa.” alongside a live painting by contemporary artist Cynthia Perryman and Calyroad Creameryartasinal cheese tasting. Cynthia will be selling her beautiful paintings alongside the discussion.
At 11 AM in the morning, founding member and historian Jane Nardy will be presenting "Tales of Cashiers Valley". At 2 PM, attendees will sip Whispering Angel rosé and taste Sugar Cloud Baking Co.'s signature champagne cake with strawberry buttrcream while listening to “A Discussion on Urban Planning” with Jeffery Dungan, Kirk Moore, and Bradley Odom.
At the start of the day, renowned Cashiers fireman, Randy Dillard, will be discussing the history of Cashiers alongside the famous Cashiers fire truck. During the afternoon, Southern Baked Pie Co.founder, Amanda Willbanks will be on-site discussing her growing company. D-I-Y elderberry tea demo with Mary Palmer Dargan, RLA, will be at 2 PM followed by a book signing of Timeless Landscape Design along with complimentary pies from Southern Baked Pie Co. at 2:30 PM
Katherine Ford will be hosting The Bascom trunk show all day, and their Director of Ceramics, Frank Vickery, will do a ceramics hand thrown pottery demo at 11 AM. Guests will enjoy a craft cocktail hour and demonstration at 2 PM with Cordial & Craft’s Lexie Harvey, a craft cocktail expert from Asheville, NC, utilizing spirits provided by ASW Distillery (requires additional ticket).
Midheaven Jeans by Kathryn Brolin with curated looks + handcrafted headpieces by Katherine Ford will kick off the day at 11 AM with a fashion presentation. Following that, "In with the old! Out with the new!" presentation by CODARUS' Thrifting with Tyler will be at 12 PM. Another exciting presentation will be at 2 PM titled “Preserving Tomorrow’s Future Today” with Davis Picklesimer of Highlands Wine Shoppe and Dale Heinlein of Satulah Mtn. Brewing Co. A cooking demo with The Barn’s beloved chef & local caterer Kristin Jorgensenwill
follow at 2:45 PM. Additional vendors will be joining the showhouse throughout the weekend including, but not limited to: Sea Island Forge Kettles, CroghansJewel Box, and Mollie Jenkins Pottery.
Conversations with COO of the Akola Project will begin at 12 PM for a chance to learn about Akola's work to train and employ Texas and Ugandan women to handcraft jewelry with fair & sustainable materials. Honorary guest Mark D. Sikeswill give the keynote presentation "Beautiful" at 2 PM (requires additional ticket). Following the presentation, at 2:45 PM Mark will be signing his book with complimentary Whispering Angel rosé, a charcuterie board provided by Travis Boswell of The Orchard, and sweet treats from Sugar Cloud Baking Co.
CLOSING CROQUET BRUNCH
We will close out the week with a Closing Croquet Brunch on August 5th with honorary guest and esteemed interior designer Mark D. Sikes. Guests are encouraged to wear their whites while enjoying live jazz music by New Orleans Jazz band The House Hoppers, croquet games, an Oakleaf Garden Popup with Kirk Moore, and putting lessons with Bobby Grace. There will also be live paintings by Diane McPhail, Steve Mckenzie and Jana Young of Jana Ink and Paper, an expansive full-service Bloody Mary bar brought to life by Cathead Vodka, Cordial & Craft and Sister’s Sauce, craft beer from popular Atlanta brewery New Realm, delectable southern soul food prepared by Mountain Fresh on Sea Island Forge kettles, and specialty vendors as well as an exciting silent partner—you won’t want to miss!
The all-access VIP ticket allows entry to every demo, lecture, and discussion on every day of the Showhouse, including the Closing Croquet Brunch. It only excludes entry to the Opening Night Gala.
