July 17 – Southern Culture on the Skids – This trio of Rick Miller (guitar and vocals), Dave Hartman (drums) and Mary Huff (bass and vocals) formed in Chapel Hill in the early 1980s and has been specializing in what they call “a greasy mix of surf, rockabilly, R&B and country-fried garage with a side of psych,” ever since. The Electric Pinecones, their latest album and fifth on their own Kudzu Records label, was released last fall and they will arrive on the Quad fresh from a World Café Live appearance in Philadelphia, and shows in Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, Milwaukee and Chicago. scots.com
