UNC Asheville’s Concerts on the Quad are back with four free Monday evening shows, featuring Americana/roots, jazz, funk, rock and soul music.
The free concerts take place June 19 and 26, and July 10 and 17, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. on the UNC Asheville Quad. Attendees are invited to bring chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy along with the music. Meals, treats and drinks will be available from concession stands on the Quad.
July 10 – Flood: Electric Herbie Hancock Tribute – This group includes some of Asheville’s finest jazz musicians performing Herbie Hancock’s electric funk of the early ’70s, including the big hit Headhunters, an album that heralded a new era of jazz fusion and was named by Rolling Stone as one of the best 500 albums of all time. UNC Asheville music faculty members Brian Felix (keyboards) and Jacob Rodriguez (saxophone) will be joined by Mike Barnes (guitar), Ben Bjorlie (electric bass), Phill Bronson (drums) and Jason DeCristofaro (percussion). facebook.com/floodelectricherbie
